* Of Yugoslav descent but born and raised in the UK, Mil inherited these unused decorative bags in a pile of family belongings and consequently discovered that, entirely unbeknown to him, his great-grandfather, George Stricevic, had established a department store in the Bosnian town of Banja Luka in the late 19th Century.
These bags reflect not only an evolutionary snapshot of early 20th C Bosnian graphic design practice, but a glimpse at the public face of a family business, which apparently sold clothing, haberdashery and household goods alongside comestibles such as tea, coffee, liquor & candies, until its appropriation by the communist government post WW2.
